Time
Since our childhood we were being given lessons on time. Our elders, parents, teachers literally everyone advises us to work on time,to sleep on time,to eat on time in short to maintain time. As we gradually grew up we realised that actually we have become a slave of time. We do everything, decide every move, take actions all according to time. Just imagine a day without time. All the clocks in the world suddenly vanished. The lives of the entire population around the globe would come to a still. It's weird Right?? Yes,it is but have you ever thought what is time? What is it nature?? Well, first I thought that time is nonexistent. It's just an imaginary concept designed to maintain order and planning in our lives. A calculation with reference to the distance and motion of the stars, planets and breaking it into fragments called time. But, gradually I realised that I was wrong. Time do have an existence, its not about just some calculations but its all about illusion. Even Sir Albert Einstein believed that the past, present and future are mere illusions. The only thing that is relevant is the moment of now. The nature of time is dependent on the physical quantities namely energy, matter, and space. Now let us understand in brief how time is related to these quantities.
Everything we see and feel are all energy. Matter is also a form of energy. When a matter with definite mass moves in the cosmos or universe, it creates gravitational waves. For instance, if these waves are too strong then it will eventually slow down time. For example:- most of us has seen the Hollywood movie "Interstellar". In one of the scene we see Mathew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway gets stranded on a lonely planet with strange physical properties for two hours. But when they return onboard their ship outside the planet's atmosphere they realises that a decade had passed. So we understand that the planet was under the impact of some strong gravitational waves which caused time to slow down drastically. The more the mass of a matter moving in cosmos the more gravitational waves it will produce. Again, if we somehow concentrate infinite matter at a particular point than an infinite gravitational energy will rise causing time to slow down. However it's impossible to do this. Now the question is why or how matter affect time? For that first we have to understand the relation between space and time.
Space and time are together termed as spacetime. There's a reason for why it is considered as one rather than two. Imagine a man standing at a certain position occupying a definite space. Now a friend of him calls on his cell phone and asks his accurate position where he's standing. Until the man is at rest he will be able to tell his friend the exact position. But the problem arises when the man gets on a bus and starts moving. Now, let us again consider that his friend called and asks for his exact location. The man replies that he is passing by the old great banyan tree. By the moment he finishes replying, he notices that actually he moved say 10 metres away from the tree as he's on a moving bus. So the man fails to convey his exact pinpoint location to his friend. The man decides to take help of a calculation. He measures the distance between where he was and where he is. This difference in his position of where he was and where he is called time. We can say from this that to define space we'll need time and to define time we'll need space. In other words both are interrelated to each other.
As we came to know the relation between space and time let us go back to our question How matter affect time? Sir Albert Einstein in his theory of relativity mentioned about spacetime fabric. The entire cosmos is considered as the spacetime fabric. As the cosmos is infinite so is the spacetime fabric. Any matter with mass that exist within the spacetime fabric curve the fabric. The more the mass the more will be the curve. If the mass is infinite the curve also will be infinite. A curve spacetime means both space and time getting bend. This bending of spacetime fabric is the nature of gravitational pull. So a infinite curvature of spacetime fabric means that time will probably come to halt or in other words it will become nonexistent(example:- Black holes). From all this facts put together we can conclude that time is a mystery in itself. In one place it determines the lives of the people while on the other it doest not even exist(Black holes). Therefore in the end I just want to say that though the existence of time cannot be denied but still it can be considered as just an illusion.
That was a great piece of work...
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that struck me as near miraculous about time, is that you cannot rationally critique time. It speaks to you, it speaks of meaning, and no matter what you say about it, no matter how cynical you are, you cannot toss it aside.
